Georgia has some of the highest levels of gun-related violence in the country,
and it has taken a devastating toll on our communities. At a minimum, we need to do more to understand the risks and impact on public health.

URGE GEORGIA LAWMAKERS TO TAKE ACTION

We urge Georgia lawmakers to form a legislative study committee to focus on a science-based public health approach to gun violence research in Georgia. Currently, Georgia lacks a public health framework for understanding gun-related violence. Without a public health framework and database of accurate information, Georgia will be unable to strategize and implement effective violence-reducing campaigns, procedures and legislative policies.

 

Guided by Georgia specific data and measured impacts, our state will be able to develop wrap-around policies that engage the public and empower officials to secure safety in our neighborhoods.

GCSC Statement on Gun Reform Efforts

We believe The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is a first step by the Biden Administration and Congress to take action against the escalating gun violence in our nation. We urge Congress to continue addressing the problem, and we call on Georgia lawmakers to start the process by establishing a study committee.

Georgia Hate Crimes Bill Becomes law

The Georgia Coalition for Safe Communities (GCSC) applauds state legislators for approving HB 426, a bipartisan hate crimes law that holds individuals and groups accountable for crimes motivated by bigotry and hatred.
